Revision for Mother Tongue and Science

Dear all,
Remember to revise the concepts found in your secret recipe, Maths Practice Papers and Maths WB.

Spend time on Friday and Monday to revise your Mother Tongue and Science. Though English Paper is over, you have to continue to revise and read your newspapers and story books.

Preparing for CA2 - Daily Bread 3

Dear all,

Daily Bread 3
1. Meena is 36 years old now. Ben is 15 years younger than she is.  Renee’s age is 1/3 of the sum of Meena’s and Ben’s age. Find Renee’s age.

2.  The ratio of Michael’s savings to Nick’s savings was 12 : 5 at first. When Michael’s savings was decreased by  1/4, their total savings became $280. How much savings did Michael have originally?

3.  Mr Lim cuts a piece of wire of length 45 m into two pieces in the ratio     3 : 2. What is the
    length of the longer piece of wire?
 
4. At a funfair, the ratio of the number of adults to the number of children was
    7 : 20. The ratio of the number of men to the number of women was 3 : 2. What was the ratio of the number of men to the number of children?

5. A box of greeting cards was shared equally among a group of 35 pupils. 5 of them gave all their cards to the rest of the pupils. As a result, the rest of the pupils received 2 more cards each. How many cards did each pupil receive at first?

1. Benson is 63 years younger than his grandfather.  In four years’ time, Benson’s grandfather will be 8 times as old as Benson.  How old is Benson now?

2.  The usual price of a television set was $1900.  Mr Lee was given a 15% discount. If the store charges 7% GST on the discounted price, how much did Mr Lee pay for the television set?

3.  The ratio of the length of a rectangle to its breadth is 9 : 5.  If the perimeter of the rectangle is 112 cm, find the area of the rectangle.

Preparing for CA2 - Daily Bread 1

For the  Doves:

1.  1/4 of a whole number is 60.  What is the number?

2.  What fraction of 3 â„“ is 90 mâ„“ ?

3.  Express  3/7 as a decimal correct to 2 decimal places.

4.  During a sale, handkerchiefs are sold in sets of 3 for $1.65.  How much must Mandy pay for
      15 handkerchiefs during the sale?

For the Falcons and Eagles:

1.   The ratio of Tim, Alex and Carlo’s mass is 1 : 2 : 3.  If Alex is 12 kg heavier than Tim, what 
       is the total mass of the three boys?

2.  At a funfair, 35% of the people were adults and the rest were children.  If 300 people were
    at  the funfair, how many adults were there?

3.  If X : Y = 4 : 7 and Y : Z = 21 : 16, what is the ratio of X : Z?  Express your answer in the
      simplest form.


We have 11 working days to 23 August 2012. However, we have to take away8 August to 10 August (3 days), 16 August to 17 August (2 days) , 20 August (Hari Raya), 22 August (EL CA2), so we are left with 4 working days to CA2 Maths.

Work out the answers to the following questions in your Maths exercise book. Copy the questions in your exercise book. Questions followed by answers.

1.There were 285 trees in Field A and 177 trees in Field B.  Some of the trees were transplanted from Field A to Field B until both fields have an equal number of trees. How many trees were transplanted from Field A to Field B?

2. Jieyun ran 7 1/4 rounds around the track.  Shafiq ran 2 1/3  more rounds than Jieyun.  How many rounds  did Shafiq run?

3. 1/9 of the fruits at a fruit stall were durians and the rest were mangosteens.  Find the total number of fruits at the fruit stall if there were 96 mangosteens.

4. Murali paid $192 for 3 belts and 3 pairs of jeans. Each pair of jeans cost thrice as much as a belt.  Calculate the difference in price between a belt and a pair of jeans.

5.   5/9 of the seats in a cinema were occupied by adults and the rest were occupied by children.  
     1/2  of the children were boys. There were 68 more adults than boys. Find the total number of people in
      the cinema.

6. Aneka saved  5/12 of her monthly salary, gave 1/5 of the remaining amount to her parents and spent the
     rest. If she gave $175 to her parents, what was Aneka’s monthly salary?
