Maths Questions from Maths WS Unit 1

Dear all,
Let's do some revision on the questions that we have problem understanding.

1.  The cost of a cap and a shirt was $27. Gerald bought 6 such caps, 4 such shirts and a pair of jeans for $200.The total cost of a pair of jeans and a cap was $74. Find the cost of a shirt.

2.  Eiana has three times as many stamps as Allen. Tricia has 16 stamps fewer than Allen. They have a total of 174 stamps. Find the total number of stamps Eiana must give away to Allen and Tricia so that all of them will have the same nunber of stamps.

Hint : Draw models
Step 1 : Read what information you are given

Step 2 : Think how you are going to draw the model. Would part whole model be a good choice or
             comparision model or both?

Step 3 : Plan how to organise the information given to you in your model.

Step 4 : Do the mathematical statements- which operations ( add, subtract, divide, multiply) to use.

Step 5 : Check your calculation, your models
